CABELL COUNTY SHERIFF KIM WOLFE RECOGNIZED

    BY NATIONAL DRUG FIGHTING ORGANIZATION

Cabell County Sheriff and Huntington Mayoral Candidate Kim Wolfe was recognized on Thursday, January 10, 2008 at the Appalachian HIDTA (High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area) annual conference at The Marriott Griffin Gate Conference Center in Lexington, Kentucky, for his contributions to their national drug fighting efforts.  Wolfe, who has been at the forefront of the region’s drug fighting efforts, served on the HIDTA Board of Directors for the calendar year of 2007.

The HIDTA Program Office of the National Drug Control Policy mission states:  “The mission of the HIDTA program is to disrupt the market for illegal drugs in the United States by assisting Federal, State and Local law enforcement entities participating in the HIDTA program to dismantle and disrupt drug trafficking organizations, with particular emphasis on drug trafficking regions that have harmful effects on other parts of the United States.”

The Appalachian HIDTA is composed of 27 counties in Kentucky, 29 counties in Tennessee, and 12 counties in West Virginia.

“The Mission of the Appalachian HIDTA (High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area ) - Kentucky/Tennessee/West Virginia – falls under the Executive Office of the President of the United States, to measurably reduce, and particularly as it relates to marijuana, the production and trafficking of illegal drugs in this immediate area, to reduce drug-related violent crime in the region, and to reduce the impact that HIDTA drug production and trafficking have on other areas of the United States.  Although marijuana is its primary focus, the Appalachian HIDTA responds to the threat posed by the elicit traffic of other drugs as required.  Central to this mission is the expansion of cooperative, multi-jurisdictional law enforcement efforts involving HIDTA funded and non-HIDTA funded resources.”

Wolfe was presented a plaque by C. Frank Rapier, Director of the Appalachian HIDTA, and the HIDTA staff.  The plaque read:

“Presented to Kim Wolfe, Sheriff, Cabell County Sheriff’s Office, Huntington, West Virginia, in recognition of your significant contributions as a member of the Appalachian HIDTA Executive Board for the calendar year 2007.”

Huntington Police Chief Skip Holbrook was also in attendance at the HIDTA conference, with other members of the Huntington Violent Crimes/Drug Task Force, headed up by Special Agent Linwood “Chip” Smith, FBI.
